This is a blood test for anemia, which is often due to low iron. This test is generally performed at the first prenatal visit and then again during the third trimester. Normal test results for Hemoglobin is greater than or equal to 12. Normal test results for Hematocrit is greater than or equal to 36. If your test indicates a problem you will be treated with an iron supplement and be given dietary changes to follow.
